FFA 232 Fundamentals of 3D Animation - Models

These are the PNG files of 3D models that are significant to one of our fyp scene. The scene chosen is at the sidewalk. The models are stones, a trash can, a TNB box and a bump ahead sign.

FFA 124 CHARACTER DESIGN - JOHNNY #2

This is the continuance of the previous post regarding character development of Johnny.

The next step is developing Johnny's colours. The colours must match his personality, and at the same time agrees with the notes about colour wheel that was given to us by our lecturer.

So even if Johnny's a quiet person and the colour that suits him are dark colours, it is a must to put at least one part of him that needs to be highlighted, for example his hair. The colours must be opposite in the colour wheel too. So if the dark colours are cool colours, the highlighted area must be in warm colour.

Afterwards, our lecturer leaves it to us to decide which colour combination of our character we prefer to proceed to our next step of character development.

This colour combination is the one I prefer. It is not too dark for he is not too nerd of a person. I wanted him to be more casual-looking despite being a bookworm. Thus the absence of spectacles that is one famous trait of general bookworm.

I chose the colour combination that has less cool colours because according to our original storyline, he is the main character that has a strong sense of justice, just like a typical main characters.
He has very light tone of skin for he rarely goes out unless urged by his friends. His boots are the ones he likes the most since it matches his sleek black pants and hoodie.
This picture is the next step after colour study; character turn around.

That ends this post.
Have a good day

FFA 124 CHARACTER DESIGN - JOHNNY

Each one of us needs to develop a character as our assignment, and the process of development is to be posted here. Thus.

This one is the very first design of Johnny that has been agreed by all of us, the group members for the final year project. His characteristics are quiet, tall, bookworm but doesn't necessarily have a nerd look. Since he is quiet, he doesn't have that many friends, so he treasures a lot those who are.His expression doesn't change much if not needed but despite that look, he thinks a lot. He tends to overthink too.

This one is the earlier designs for Johnny that has been rejected for lack of variety. This was made before our lecturer announced that this project is an individual work.I was told to do it all over again. The minimum of 10 designs were needed to decide on one. Designs need to match his personality too.

So these two pictures are the 10 designs of Johnny that was made. The struggle to design all of them was real. Even so these designs were unsatisfactory. Nevertheless, our lecturer proceeded them by choosing three of these designs that she agreed match Johnny's personality.

So these are the three designs that our lecturer has chosen for me to choose any one of these to proceed to the next step of character development.I decided to choose the right one even if many of those who voted vote for the middle one.

So the next step of character development is to draw the poses of the character. The poses must be related to the character based on the personality. Two poses of Johnny reading was drawn even though the pose was not related to the story my fyp group has made. It's purposely made to emphasise Johnny's one trait of being a bookworm.Other poses are related to the story we made.

Next progress will be continued in the next post.
Have a good day

FFA 124 Character Design Caricature

Next assignment is to draw a caricature and can barely believe that it's actually in the syllabus because I'm really not good at drawing real or semi-real faces. Look how I got through it. I did do it twice for better results.

I actually did it straight from sketches, meaning that I didn't have a sketch layer. I straight out drew the lineart from the sketch itself. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad habit. Clever me forgot to screenshot the sketching progress.

After that, before putting colours, I adjusted the size of everything but head to emphasize the concept caricature. I did it many times to reach the one I'm satisfied with and fits with my goal because I'm not used to drawing a body with not the usual proportions.

I know this maybe is too fast-forward but the process doesn't have anything interesting worth mentioning so I'll just move on to the final result of this particular assignment. I am quite satisfied with the lighting contours of the face even though it's nothing to be compared to my other friends'.

Final result.

Credit to Nurul Sabrina Azman for lending her face to be wrecked by me.

FFA 121 Character Design Progress #2

So this is the continuance of the previous post.

I thought I'd submit the coloured one before, but then I was affected by the submitted works of friends (it resulted me being late at submitting this assignment) and put some shades on them by making a new layer and used grey for the shades layer.

After that, I placed the coloured layer above the shade layer and put the layer on the mode [Overlay] so that the colour and the shade could merge together.

Then I did the same to the second character with less complicated shading since I don't have much experience shading character with such features.

For the girl, I put the colour layer in [Linear Light] mode as [Overlay] layer makes it look quite dark.

For the last character, I used the [Overlay] mode for the colour layer again. So this marks the end of this post as this state of drawing is how I submitted for this assignment.

I enjoyed drawing these characters, I really do even though it is way far different from what I usually draw. I don't have much hope for this assignment so I plan to do better next time.

Have a good day !

FFA 121 Character Design Progress

The next assignment is quite challenging since we have to draw a cartoon character based on basic shapes such as circle, square and rectangle. For my assignment, I chose two triangles, a circle (not quite) and a rectangle.

And so I did actually started the assignment by drawing the shapes as my earliest sketch. After that, I tried putting on limbs and such to make it more human-like, and yes, I don't prefer to draw animals.

So this is my rough sketches painfully made from the shapes. It doesn't look all that complicated but it serves as a challenge to me nevertheless as I've never done such a thing like drawing people from shapes. It's a good kind of change once in a while.

After that I started to do the lineart of the sketches. Some don't end up like how they were initially planned to be but I tried to make do with what I could muster up from my inability to make a drawing I'm satisfied with.

So this is how it looks like without the sketch
layer.

Then I put some character colours on them. The left-most looks brave and has the look of a typical main character of certain stories, so red suits him just right. The second from left looks like a fat but cheerful kind of person so yellow kind of suits his character. The second from right is made to look like a girl with a good-natured smile and temper, sort of like those who gives you the calm feeling when you look at them so green is my choice. Lastly, I give blue to the right-most for his lankiness and how he looks awkward most of the time, how he is not known for easily getting angry, some sort of a bullied character.

Because of some technical reasons, I'll continue on the second post of this assignment progress.

FFA 121 Shapes

Greetings,,

This'll be my first post of the blog and saying embarrassing things is not an option.

And so our second class started with watching a video about the making of Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Thousands of drawings were drawn to make a movie, and a factory worth of workers were needed to make it happen. Being amazed is an understatement.

Ms Sheila then instructed us to use graphic tablet and Adobe Photoshop and taught us basic things about it including hotkeys to brushes, eraser, etc.

In order to make sure we students get used to using graphic tablet, she told us to draw circles, squares/rectangles and triangles, and post it here.

Thus.

Ah, have a good day.

Circles and rounds and gross-looking fluffy thing broke through.

Somehow I'm quite proud of this.

I wanted to make it like some sort of a pattern but nah, forget it.
